New Check-In Procedures

Sunset Properties has updated our check-in procedures for 2010!

Check-in now takes place at our office located at 102 Causeway Drive for Ocean Isle Beach rentals and 419 Sunset Boulevard for all Sunset Beach rentals. As you can see from the photos, our Sunset check-ins have become even easier by having guests check-in outside in our parking area. Guests will not have to wait in line at the office, but can instead park their car and walk up to our arrival tent. If your home is not ready for occupancy, we will take your cell phone number and add it to our records. You will receive an automated call to this cell phone number notifying you should your home become available prior to the standard check-in time of 4pm. We have been utilizing this new procedure during the 2010 season and have found it to be very helpful to our guests. Please keep this new policy in mind when preparing for your summer getaway.

Take Surfing Lessons from a Champ!

Congratulations to Michael Powell for his recent surfing championships. He won the pro division in mid-July at the 6th annual Reef/Sweetwater Pro-Am Surf Fest at Wrightsville Beach (and collected $5,000), and he won the 2010 National Scholastic Surfing Association college men's championship in California (where he represented UNCW).

Michael and his brother Ben own the Carolina School of Surf, and offer lessons at Ocean Isle Beach. Check them out-you could learn from some of the best on your next vacation with Sunset Properties!

Medieval Times-A Fun Experience

For those of you looking for something different to do while on vacation, consider an evening at Medieval Times. I took my children and extended family last week and everyone had a great experience. Using the bypass makes getting there much easier, but expect a drive time of about one hour. Also, expect to wait in line to pick up or purchase your tickets and have your group photo made. Although, I have to say we weren't in line more than 10 minutes.

Once inside, you will be pleasantly suprised at the spaciousness of the building. There are several different souvenirs to browse through, or you can make your way to the bar and grab a pre-event drink served in of course, a souvenir cup.

When the staff is ready to begin seating, you will want to look on your ticket stub and know which section you will be dining in. We were in the Green section and while I won't give too much away, this is definately the most entertaining section to sit in. Our "wench" served us a "Royal Feast" that consisted of a Tomato Bisque, Baked Chicken(very large portion), Pork ribs, Garlic Bread, Baked potato, and Dessert. They do provide a vegetarian option upon request. I have to say the food was great, just remember to bring your plastic ware if you don't want to eat the entire meal with your fingers.

The coolest thing about this show is that real swords are used and you can see the sparks fly when the knights are in action. There is jousting as well as other competitions that add a little more interest to the somewhat expected plot of good kinght vs. bad knight. The lighting can become dark at times so you may want to remember this if you are planning to bring small children.

Southern Seafood You Can Prepare During Your Vacation

One of the best things about vacationing at the beach....The Seafood!! Anyone who has vacationed on the Brunswick Islands knows you can find your fair share of seafood restaurants to try during your stay. But what if you want to stay in and still have that great seafood experience? Well, below you will find a great recipe(that is super simple). You can easily put this together in the kitchen of your vacation home. Make sure you have a large pot!

Shrimp and Sausage Boil

3 to 4 lb. large unpeeled shrimp
2 lb. kielbasa diagonally sliced into 1 in. pieces
2.5 lbs. new potatoes(small)
4 ears of corn cut into 2 in. pieces
1 3 oz. bag shrimp boil
3 Tbsp. Old Bay seasoning
4 lemons halved
Fresh Parsley for garnish

In a large crab pot bring 2 gallons water to boiling. Add Old Bay seasoning and shrimp boil, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Add potatoes a few at a time. Simmer 7 to 9 minutes. Add corn and simmer uncovered for about 5 minutes. Add shrimp and sausage and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes making sure not to overcook the shrimp.

I suggest serving on a large platter. Add the lemon halves and garnish with parsley.

Multiple Sclerosis Society Contribution

Jake Foutz of Sunset Properties presents a company donation to Jeff Viscount and Suzanne Bland of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for their MS Bike Ride scheduled to end at the Sunset Beach pier on September 26th. The donation was generated by new fans to the Sunset Properties Facebook page during the month of May.

This will be the 25th anniversary of Bike MS-Breakaway to the Beach with over 1500 participants starting in either Columbia or Charlotte. For further information on participating in the event, visit: www.nationalmssociety.org/chapters/NCP/fundraising-events/bike-ms/index.aspx.

Summer Concert Series

The Ocean Isle Beach Summer Concert Series in now underway! If you haven't came out and enjoyed the free music and laid back setting, you're missing out!! Sunset Slush will be on hand to chase the summer heat away with great italian ice and the bands are always entertaining. Be sure to come out and join us when you are in town. Concerts are every Friday night throughut the summer and begin at 6:30pm at the Museum of Coastal Carolina, 21 East Second Street Ocean Isle Beach.
